Forepanel with Snaps and Maternity Option Loose Kirtle and Forepanel This under-gown is based upon the extant gown in the Germanisches Nationalmusem examined by Janet Arnold in Patterns of Fashion. Each gown has a back closing and a detachable decorative forepanel. Our forepanel is attached to the kirtle by snap tape, allowing for easier cleaning and for greater versatility through interchangeable forepanels. This gown is designed to be worn under the Flat-back Surcoat with any of the narrow fitting sleeves. It is designed to fit over a farthingale of 100" to 120", dependent upon the wearer's height. We currently offer two types of forepanels: Brocade Forepanels or Designer Forepanels. Our Designer Forepanels come in six designs: Three Simple Rows - three rows of trim just above the hem Meeting Chevrons - pairs of chevrons at different angles that meet in points down the forepanel Sets of Chevrons - pairs of chevrons equally spaced down the forepanel Simple Beading - small clusters of beading equally spaced across the forepanel Beaded Chevrons - pairs of chevrons equally spaced down the forepanel with beading clusters between the pairs Beaded Vines - vines made of braid with beaded flowers climb up the forepanel We also offer Narrow Sleeves in coordinating designs to match our Designer Forepanels. We also offer a Maternity Option on our Loose Kirtles. This option includes slits for breastfeeding along the edges of the Forepanel, closed with buttons and elastic loops for ease of use. We can also include an optional longer front hem for pregnancy. Please contact us for more information on this last option. The kirtle is made of cotton muslin. All seams are finished. Minimal visible stitching at the hem. Optional zipper closing or grommets and lacing in the back. The forepanel is made of silk charmeuse and cotton drill or brocades of various fiber content. All edges are bound with tape to prevent raveling. Click here for colors and brocades available.
