| Farthingale-Kirtle |
| Before the corset came the boned kirtle, a gown shaped like the outerwear but with boning added to the bodice. A Margaret Roe Designs original, the Farthingale-kirtle takes this garment one step further by adding the farthingale to the skirts. This unique blend of garments not only reduces the bulk at the waist by eliminating the farthingale's waistband, the added weight of the farthingale keeps the corset down and in place while the corset more evenly distributes the weight of the farthingale and skirts across the shoulders, waist and hips. |
| Like the corset, the kirtle has straps that lace in front and back, allowing them to be removed as needed, and laces up both the front and back, allowing the wearer to comfortably adjust the corset, while still being able to put it on unaided. The farthingale is made to your length and width needs, and can have a bottom hoop circumference of as much as 130". |
| Made of cotton drill with a cotton muslin lining and a cotton broadcloth exterior. Corset edges bound with tape. Metal grommets. Optional steel hoop boning or heavyweight farthingale boning. |
