| Flat-Back Surcoat |
| This under-gown is based upon extant gown in the Germanisches Nationalmusem examined by Janet Arnold in Patterns of Fashion and several portraits of the 1550s and 1560s. Each gown is front fastening with hooks and bars, and has a 3" to 4" hem guard of black cotton velvet to both protect the hem and provide the necessary weight for the silk to hang correctly. |
| This gown is designed to be worn over the Loose Kirtle or a Round Gown with any of the narrow fitted sleeves. It is designed to fit comfortably over a farthingale of 100" to 120", dependent upon the wearer's height. |
| Made of silk dupioni and cotton velvet. All seams are finished. Minimal visible stitching at the hem. Optional shoulder tabs styles or shoulder rolls. |
