Doublet

DOUBLET
The Doublet was a close-fitting coat worn throughout the sixteenth century. By the latter half of the century, it had short skirting or tabs at the waist and small tabs at the shoulders. Our doublet has a narrow, straight collar and light boning in the front to help maintain its shape.

ITALIAN DOUBLET
Doublets slashed to show the lining or a second doublet below remained popular throughout the sixteenth century. Like our women’s English Italian Gown, our Italian doublet mimics this look with vertical openings from shoulder to waist that show off the lining, yet are caught at intervals to maintain the shape and fit of the doublet. This doublet also has a narrow, straight collar and light boning in the front to help maintain its shape.

Both style Doublets are made of silk dupioni with cotton drill and cotton broadcloth linings. Minimal machine stitching may be visible at the collar. Optional waist and shoulder tab shapes.
